Many celebrities visit the island Mallorca. And why?
Mallorca offers a wonderful Mediterranean climate, rugged and charming landscapes, historic towns and hundreds of kilometers of coastline with sandy beaches, cliffs, villages, ports and caves.
Wind
The sea breeze on Mallorca is known as the Embat. This is a local wind and caused by the daily heating of the land in contrast to the lower seawater temperature.
The air heats the land to allow the warm air to rise and thus the cooler sea air is drawn towards the island. The result is that the daily temperatures in the summer at the seaside will not increase too much, as long as the land breeze which blows against the Embat is not there.
Offering various bays and moorings waiting to be found, Mallorca is one of the most well known destinations among Mediterranean sailors. Explore with a sailing yacht the beautiful scenery. This is a nice way to enjoy the sea, sun and wind of the Mediterranean. You'll discover natural bays, beautiful sandy beaches idyllic anchorages and lively towns.
Mallorca is the perfect destination for sailors because of its 500 km of coastline with sandy shorelines, amazing bays and real turquoise waters that are serene and easy to navigate because not bothered by tides and currents. If you want to sail around the island the best way is to this in counter clockwise direction. This will give you the maximum benefit of the Tramontana wind, famous for Mallorca. Not surprisingly, one needs to pay attention to local weather information to guarantee the anchorage you'll choose to spend the night is sheltered and offers protection for the wind and waves.
One week is not enough to sail around the island, you'll need 2 weeks to explore the beautiful anchorages and have time to visit places on the land. A good place to start your sailing holiday is Palma de Mallorca. Good facilities to shop and stock before you start sailing in south-easterly direction. Round Cabo Blanco you can explore Rapita and the Es Trenc shoreline with one of the most known beaches from the Balearic Islands. Do not forget to explore the astonishing Natural Reserve park of Cabrera. But you have to organize a permit before you can visit Cabrera and spend a night on a mooring buoy. From Cabrera in a northerly direction you can explore the Migjorn area with a lot of bays and anchorages. Some nice places are Es Caragol, Cala Llombards, Cala Mitjana and Port Colom, the biggest natural bay of Mallorca. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the village with the typical Majorcan houses.
We suggest you spend some time in Palma de Mallorca at the end of your sailing holiday. It is an interesting town with culture and also a lot of sailing events are organized by the Real Club Nautico. For example the Palma Vela regatta, Reina Sofia Trophy and Copa del Rey yacht regatta.
